Wyoming County EDA in selection process for future industrial development

The Wyoming County Economic Development Authority will soon be announcing the name of the engineering firm who will be spearheading future development at the John D. Rockefeller IV Industrial Park.

The board is expected to make a decision during the upcoming board meeting on June 17. The firm selected to carry out the project will be in charge of carrying out preliminary tasks, design, construction, bidding, contracting, prepping, and delivery related to the industrial park expansion. Interviews are currently being conducted with two  of the five firms that applied to be involved in the industrial park project.

When completed in September 2022, the addition will be a 15,000 square foot facility, housing a single company that will assist in diversifying the Wyoming County economy and creating new jobs. The company that will occupy the space has not yet been announced but is unrelated to fossil fuel industries. Once a firm has been identified to carry out the construction, the EDA will be applying for loans and grants to assist in completing the project.

The John D. Rockefeller IV Industrial Park, located on Welch Pineville Road, is home to multiple commercial buildings, including Oceanetics, the Hatfield-McCoy Trails, Central Supply Co., and Radius Energy Services. The expansion will come nearly 20 years after the last construction on site, which was completed between 2003-2004. Since then, the park has remained at full capacity and currently provides 30 jobs.

The industrial park expansion follows a trend of continued growth in Wyoming County in recent years, including the ever-growing Hatfield-McCoy ATV Trails that draw visitors from across the United States to our mountains, and the recent opening of the Coalfields Expressway highway that connects Beckley and Mullens.

At the EDA, we are ecstatic to be involved in this development and look forward to seeing the growth, diversification and opportunities it brings to our flourishing county.
