Business Spotlight: Larry Lambert Excavating, Inc.

Located in Oceana, WV Larry Lambert Excavating, Inc. has been in business since October 2001. President Larry Lambert says the business focuses on commercial and residential excavation, along with mining excavation.

As a kid, Larry loved the types of equipment associated with excavating. When he got older, he had a friend who had an excavating business, who he says helped open doors for him to know what he wanted to do.

Although he holds the position of President in the company, Larry is quick to point out that the majority shareholder is actually his wife, making Larry Lambert Excavating, Inc. a woman-owned company.

Larry has received funding for his business through the Wyoming County EDA’s Micro Loan and Revolving Loan programs. Along with receiving funding from the EDA, Larry took advantage of a Next Level Business class. Larry says that the funds he received helped him purchase necessary equipment and have the working capital he needed to make his business successful.

“A dump truck was one of the first purchases that I made and then I took some working capital funds and rented a piece of equipment that I ended up just purchasing as I kept it long term – it was a bulldozer.”

A while back, Larry was featured in a “40 Under 40” article where he says the first thing he did was give the EDA a big thumbs up.

“They’re always on time with everything, professional, always have everything in order,” Larry says about his experience with the EDA. “You know, you can go in and they have information, brochures, applications, and can guide you step-by-step. They’ve never failed to answer the phone anytime I’ve called.”

Larry highly recommends the EDA for entrepreneurs looking for help with funding their business dreams.

“I definitely do. Their business plans and stuff that they request with some of their loans and application processes might allow new entrepreneurs to realize what they’re getting into, maybe help (them) notice and separate the expenses, identify expenses, (it’s) not only a process to see if they financially qualify. They offer insight and make you put down legwork to do due diligence on your venture. I would recommend the EDA, they’ve always been helpful.”
