Empowering Wyoming County’s Future: The 2024 Wyoming County Community Fund Scholarship

In the pursuit of a brighter tomorrow, the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority proudly introduces the 2024 Wyoming County Community Fund Scholarship. This scholarship program is designed to foster higher academic pursuits among the residents of Wyoming County, building a foundation for success and contributing to the sustainable development of the community.

General Information:

The scholarship is open to a diverse range of candidates:

  • Students attending a Wyoming County High School
  • Wyoming County students at the Career & Technical Center or Southern WV Community & Technical College, Wyoming County campus
  • Wyoming County adults returning to school or holding an ABE Certificate


Applicants must be Wyoming County residents and intend to attend the Wyoming County Career & Technical Center or Southern WV Community & Technical College. The scholarship amounts to $1,250 for both the Fall 2024 and Spring 2025 academic semesters, emphasizing its commitment to supporting continuous education.

The Wyoming County Community Fund, facilitated by the Beckley Area Foundation (BAF), is a sustainable resource aimed at addressing the evolving needs of Wyoming County. Donations made to the fund are invested, and only the income generated from these investments is distributed, ensuring a perpetual source of funding for future generations. Eligibility Criteria:

To be eligible, applicants must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, showcase prior work experience or community service, and adhere to specific guidelines such as not being on probation. The scholarship is a one-time grant intended for the Fall 2024 – Spring 2025 term, promoting fairness and equal opportunity. Additionally, the application and selection process ensures transparency, with specific criteria in place to prevent conflicts of interest.

Scholarship Grant Narrative:

The heart of the application lies in the three-page narrative, where candidates must address crucial questions:

  • Why do you deserve this scholarship based on the eligibility criteria?
  • How will this scholarship assist you in achieving your educational goals?
  • What ideas do you have to stimulate the economy in Wyoming County?


These questions encourage applicants to articulate their aspirations, highlight their potential contributions, and demonstrate their commitment to the local community.

Scholarship Grant Proposal Components:

Applicants are required to submit the following materials with their proposals:

Proposal Cover Sheet

Typed Proposal Narrative

Official Transcript and/or ABE scores

Optional additional information supporting their application


Submission & Review:

The submission deadline for the scholarship grant is April 10, 2024. All applications must be postmarked or delivered to the Wyoming County EDA office. The review process, which may include phone interviews, will take 4-8 weeks from the proposal deadline. Successful applicants will be notified, and the scholarship will be awarded to the Wyoming County Career & Technical Center or Southern WV Community & Technical College, Wyoming County campus, in the recipient’s name.
