The Wyoming County Economic Development Authority is proud to announce the 2025 recipient of the Wyoming County Community Fund Scholarship: Peyton Armstrong, a graduating senior from Wyoming East High School. Peyton plans to continue his education at the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center this fall, where he will be pursuing technical training that prepares him for a promising future in the skilled trades.
As this year’s scholarship recipient, Peyton will receive $1,250 for the Fall 2025 semester and an additional $1,250 for the Spring 2026 semester—bringing his total scholarship award to $2,500. The scholarship committee was impressed by Peyton’s academic performance, his community engagement, and his commitment to furthering his education right here in Wyoming County.
The Wyoming County Community Fund Scholarship is designed to support local residents as they take the next steps in their educational and career journeys. Open to a diverse range of candidates—including high school seniors, adults returning to school, and individuals with an Adult Basic Education (ABE) certificate—the scholarship prioritizes accessibility and equity in education. Eligible applicants must reside in Wyoming County and attend either the Wyoming County Career and Technical Center or Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College.
To qualify, applicants must maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5, demonstrate past work experience or community service, and meet specific behavioral and academic standards. The scholarship is awarded as a one-time grant, encouraging fairness and providing new opportunities for different students each year.
The Wyoming County Community Fund itself is a vital part of the county’s long-term growth strategy. Managed through a partnership with the Beckley Area Foundation (BAF), the fund was established to address the ever-changing needs of our communities. Unlike one-time donations or short-term grants, the Community Fund is built for sustainability. Donations are invested, and only the income generated is distributed to local projects and programs, including scholarships. This ensures that today’s contributions can continue to support Wyoming County residents for generations to come.
The scholarship program is just one example of how the Community Fund helps local students and adults pursue educational goals that contribute to the strength and resilience of our region. Supporting education, especially through local institutions like the Career and Technical Center and Southern WV Community and Technical College, is a key part of creating a strong workforce and encouraging economic development right here at home.
We congratulate Peyton Armstrong on his achievement and wish him continued success as he takes the next step in his education and career. His dedication reflects the spirit and promise of Wyoming County’s next generation of professionals and leaders.
