Celebrating the 2025 Winners of the Wyoming County Writing Contest

The Wyoming County Planning Commission is proud to announce the winners of the 2025 Wyoming County Writing Contest, an annual celebration of creativity and culture made possible by the Wyoming County Literature Fund. Founded by local author and philanthropist Lonnie Bailey, the fund was created to inspire writers of all ages to explore the rich heritage and unique stories of Wyoming County through the written word.

Now in its fifth year, the contest continues to grow in participation and impact. With categories spanning from elementary school to adult writers, the competition offers a meaningful platform for local voices to be heard, recognized, and celebrated. Mr. Bailey’s commitment to preserving Appalachian culture through writing is a gift that continues to inspire. A prolific author and poet, Bailey’s legacy includes more than 20 books and hundreds of published works. His vision for the Literature Fund ensures that local writers, young and old, have a chance to share their voice and celebrate their heritage.

We encourage the community to support this growing tradition and look forward to even more creative entries in 2026. Congratulations again to this year’s winners and thank you for helping keep the stories of Wyoming County alive.
