WCEDA – Loans since inception

Since 2001, the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority (WCEDA) has been committed to helping small businesses across West Virginia gain access to the capital they need to start, grow, and thrive. Over the past two decades, WCEDA has recognized the critical role that financing plays in building strong local economies, particularly in times of economic slowdown when traditional lending becomes more difficult to secure. By stepping into the gap, WCEDA has ensured that entrepreneurs and small businesses have the resources necessary to create jobs, expand operations, and invest in their communities.

A Mission to Serve Small Businesses

The WCEDA loan program was created with three guiding principles: provide capital for business growth, fill gaps in small business lending that traditional institutions may not address, and partner—not compete—with lenders to maximize opportunities for entrepreneurs. Loans are available statewide and tailored to meet a variety of needs, from small startups seeking just a few thousand dollars to established businesses investing in property, equipment, or working capital.

Loan Impact Across West Virginia

Since inception, WCEDA has provided 477 loans totaling $13,267,168.36, directly supporting business development across the state. These loans have come in many forms, each designed to meet specific needs:

  • Micro Loans: $4.85 million across 282 loans
  • Revolving Loans: $2.93 million across 41 loans
  • Intermediary Relending Program (IRP): $1.46 million across 16 loans
  • Small Business Loans: $1.57 million across 47 loans
  • ARC COVID-19 Relief: $1.43 million across 67 loans
  • ARC FASTER WV Initiative: $445,650 across 13 loans
  • ARC Revolving Loans: $360,750 across 8 loans
  • SSBCI/WVCAP Loans: $217,500 across 3 loans

These numbers represent more than dollars—they reflect hundreds of businesses that have been able to grow, adapt, and create opportunities in their communities thanks to accessible financing.

Highlights in Lending

  • During FY2021, WCEDA quickly responded to the pandemic by deploying $1.1 million in ARC COVID-19 loans to 56 businesses across 22 counties.
  • Recent years have seen growth through innovative programs such as FASTER WV, which strengthens the culture of entrepreneurship in Southern West Virginia, and SSBCI/WVCAP, offering new sources of capital for businesses that may not fit traditional lending models.
  • From FY2022 to FY2024 alone, WCEDA supported nearly $1.7 million in loans, continuing its role as a trusted financing partner.

Why Wyoming County?

While the loan program is available statewide, WCEDA also encourages entrepreneurs to consider Wyoming County as a place to put down roots. The county offers not only access to capital but also a high quality of life, with top-rated schools, abundant outdoor recreation, beautiful mountains and streams, and a welcoming small-town atmosphere.

Building the Future Together

For over 20 years, the Wyoming County EDA has invested in the people and businesses of West Virginia. With more than $13 million lent and hundreds of success stories across the state, the loan program continues to serve as a cornerstone for economic growth and resilience.
