Celebrate National Small Business Week April 30-May 6!

At the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority, we celebrate small businesses all year long — but spring is an extra special occasion!

Each year, the first week of May marks National Small Business Week, a weeklong observance where we recognize the local businesses that serve as pillars in our communities. This year’s event will kick off April 30 and last through May 6.

It’s safe to say many factors have reshaped today’s business landscape over the last decade, including the emergence of online shopping, competing with major retailers, and recent challenges brought forth by the coronavirus pandemic. But despite these variables, there are entrepreneurs working hard to meet their customers’ needs and diversify their local economies.

When we invest in local businesses, we’re keeping dollars in our local economy, which allows these businesses to grow and create more jobs for our region. According to Intuit, $48 out of every $100 we spend at a local business is recirculated in our community. Plus, you’re more likely to have opportunities to connect with the owner and employees directly, which is helpful if you have questions or want to ask for recommendations!

What sets the Wyoming County EDA’s lending program apart

These loans are designed to provide capital needed to grow in West Virginia, fill in financial gaps that aren’t covered by other lenders, and we collaborate with other lending institutions to ensure your business is able to receive as much support as it needs. For example, loans may be applied for and used to help cover costs of much-needed equipment, payroll, technological upgrades, store renovations, or other large expenses.

At the Wyoming County EDA, we also believe that everyone deserves a fair chance and opportunity, which is why we’re committed to working with individuals whom other non-local lenders may have turned down in the past. We all have to start somewhere, and if you’re not sure where to start, simply reach out to a member of our team. We’re here to help!

Consumers: Let’s all do our part!

Not a business owner? No problem! You can still celebrate National Small Business Week by supporting the businesses in your own community.

Building a business takes a lot of hard work, and it takes a supportive community. As West Virginians, we can all do our part to help our neighbors thrive. Now that’s something we can all get behind!
