Wyoming County continues to make significant strides in preparing its industrial parks for future business growth and investment. While large-scale infrastructure projects often require careful coordination between multiple agencies and funding partners, steady progress is being made at both the Barkers Creek Industrial Park and the John D. Rockefeller IV Industrial Park.
These projects represent important investments in Wyoming County’s future by creating development-ready sites that can attract new businesses, support job creation, and strengthen the local economy.
Work continues to move forward at the Barkers Creek Industrial Park as the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority works closely with federal partners to complete several major infrastructure improvements.
The Barkers Creek project is currently awaiting notice to proceed from the U.S. Economic Development Administration (USEDA), along with approval for requested project extensions. While that process continues, additional work is being completed to ensure the project remains on schedule once authorization is received.
One of the most significant developments is the planned bridge project, which has officially been approved by Congress. This important improvement will enhance access to the industrial park and improve transportation options for future businesses locating at the site.
The Wyoming County EDA is currently working with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to update project budgets as part of the transition from the original power expansion project to the new bridge project. Environmental documentation is also being updated while officials await the execution of the formal agreement reflecting the project change.
If timelines continue as expected, the bridge project is anticipated to be ready to go out for bid in August, bringing the project one step closer to construction.
Exciting progress is also taking place at the John D. Rockefeller IV Industrial Park.
Design work for the facility is nearly complete, with only the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing components remaining before the project package can be submitted to USEDA for final review and approval. Once approval is received, the project will be positioned to move into the bidding phase.
This milestone represents another major step toward preparing the industrial park to welcome new business and industrial opportunities.
In addition to construction planning, recent changes have taken place regarding occupancy at the park. Following the expiration of Central Supply’s lease on March 31, Oceanetics has assumed the lease for the property. A small portion of the facility will continue to be utilized by the Hatfield-McCoy Trail System, maintaining support for one of the region’s most valuable tourism assets while creating new opportunities for industrial development.
Industrial parks play a critical role in economic development by providing businesses with sites that are ready for investment and expansion. Improvements to infrastructure, transportation access, and available facilities help position Wyoming County as a competitive location for manufacturers, distribution centers, technology companies, and other employers looking to grow.
Although projects of this size require patience and coordination among local, state, and federal partners, each completed milestone brings Wyoming County closer to attracting new investment and creating quality jobs for residents.
