The Wyoming County Economic Development Authority (EDA) is hosting a Capacity Building Summer Associate – AmeriCorps VISTA position for Summer 2026 through Conservation Legacy’s Stewards Individual Placement Program. The role is based in Pineville, WV and runs from June 15 through August 23, 2026, with a 300-hour service term.
This opportunity is centered around supporting local scholarships and small business training while helping move the community forward in an area where poverty rates remain higher than surrounding regions. At the same time, the position is designed to build long-term capacity within the EDA by creating training schedules and plans that can continue well beyond the summer.
The Summer Associate will focus on developing practical tools and resources that support workforce development and community engagement. Work includes compiling labor market research, building workforce resource inventories, creating community asset maps, organizing environmental data, drafting partnership frameworks, and designing planning templates. The role also supports outreach efforts like workshops, campaigns, and site observations.
In addition to planning work, the position offers hands-on involvement with local initiatives. Responsibilities include organizing grant and small business loan documents, reaching out to local businesses, helping coordinate training and loan opportunities, assisting with fundraising for the 2026 scholarship fundraiser, and working alongside industrial park tenants and engineers.
Applicants must be at least 17 years old, meet AmeriCorps eligibility requirements, and have a high school diploma (or be working toward one). A vehicle is recommended, and strong computer skills and familiarity with the Wyoming County area are preferred.
This is a full-time summer service role, typically 35–40 hours per week, with some flexibility in scheduling. Participants receive AmeriCorps orientation and training, including a Virtual Member Orientation on their first day.
Benefits include a $1,565.08 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award and a $957.46 bi-weekly living allowance, along with eligibility for healthcare, childcare support, loan forbearance, and professional development opportunities.
