Ending 2022’s first quarter with big news

It’s been a busy first quarter here at the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority, and that’s just how we like it. With spring on the horizon, upcoming grant application deadlines, and major project progress underway, we already have so much to look forward to in quarter two.

As you know, we’ve had to keep a few pending matters under wraps, but today, we’re so excited to finally share some of the big news with you!

Major roofing project will soon be underway at the Rockefeller Industrial Park

This year, the West Virginia Department of Economic Development has presented Wyoming County EDA with $200,000 to assist in construction costs associated with roof replacements for all buildings at the John D. Rockefeller Industrial Park. The roof construction project is one facet of renovations to ensure that all commercial buildings in the business park are updated and in good condition.

This project at the industrial park will save 24 full-time jobs and two part-time positions, with payroll exceeding $1 million in wages annually. This funding will be invaluable to our county as we optimize the park’s role in our community.

EDA Board selects firm for Barkers Creek Industrial Park project

Later this month, we’ll be applying for a competitive grant through the U.S. Economic Development Authority. If received, the additional funding will be directed toward construction of a new facility at the Barkers Creek Industrial Park.

Earlier this year, we posted a Request For Qualifications for engineering firms interested in the Barkers Creek Industrial Park project. On Monday, March 7, our Board assembled for a special meeting to review applicants. We selected The Thrasher Group to carry out this project, and we are all excited to start the much anticipated work at the industrial park

New businesses, job opportunities incoming

We’ll also be welcoming a new business to Wyoming County in the near future. This company is a business rooted in the environmentally sustainable alternative energy sector. This business will complement and work alongside other businesses in our community.

The business projects 15 full-time jobs for this facility, and they plan to hire locally for several of the positions. Stay up to date on this project’s progress and all other Wyoming County EDA news by liking us on Facebook or visiting our website.

Submission reminders

Spring can be a hectic time of year — trust us, we know! That’s why we’re including a reminder for two important deadlines: the Wyoming County Community Fund scholarship and the annual Wyoming County Writing Contest.

Wyoming County residents must submit their applications for the annual WCCF scholarship by April 1, 2022. For more information about the WCCF scholarship program and eligibility, click here

The Writing Contest’s submission period will also close March 31, 2022. Entrants must be enrolled in grades 1-12 or aged 18 and above. This contest is sponsored by Wyoming County’s own Lonnie Bailey, an award-winning poet. Click here to learn more about the Writing Contest and your eligibility.

COVID Relief Loans

Last but certainly not least, we have successfully distributed $1,350,000 in COVID-19 Emergency Relief Loans as of March 1, 2022. So far, 64 loans have been received across 21 counties in West Virginia. And there’s still more money available for eligible applicants!
